What’s New in 3.0
• User Interface Updates
Changes have been made to the Publishers, Alerts, Sales, Expenses, and other screens to improve usability. The screens now display better organization in terms of the order of fields and use of whitespace.
• Alerts Fields added for Label and Color
Two fields have been added to support a Label field on an Alert, along with a Color. Default colors that are dynamic based upon when an Alert is due are still supported. The user may override these color choices and specify a color. These colors are used for displaying alerts under the Alerts tab, AND under the Home tab for the Calendar view. This is especially useful when additional alerts are imported into the application, such as for displaying an Editorial Calendar.
• Import Publishers from Spreadsheet File
Publishers may be loaded from a spreadsheet file. This release adds the ability to identify imported Publishers that have already been loaded, and selectively update those records!
• Import Alerts from Spreadsheet File
Alerts may be loaded from a spreadsheet file. This release adds the ability to identify imported Alerts that have already been loaded, and selectively update those records! This feature is also useful for loading in an Editorial Calendar, using the Label field to identify the Publication or Department for the calendar, along with color-coding the loaded events.
• Improved FileMaker Go Support
FileMaker Go support has been expanded for use on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. Leaving the program and returning to it now supports picking up immediately from the last screen used without needing to re-open the file. In addition, report screens have been customized for display under iOS, where the Preview mode is not supported. On the iPhone version, the user may now click to dial the Point of Contact phone numbers.
• Miscellaneous
Minor updates to the application have been made to improve usability.
• Documents subtabs display records sorted by showing the most recently modified file at the top of the listing.
• Home page Calendar view has been updated with better placement of the controls for switching the date for the display.
• Alerts now have a button to jump to the appropriate month/year in the Home page Calendar, making it easy to get an overview of other alerts near that time.
• Suggest a Publisher – this button on the Story page now sorts the order of Publisher records displayed that meet the filter requirements, showing paying markets first, and non-paying markets last.
• Paying Market Cue – the Publishers page now shows “$” symbols to allow the user to access the market at a glance.
• Week of Year and Date Expansions – the full day of week and month are now shown next to most date fields. Also, the week of the year is shown. This is important for professional organizations that track due dates by week of year.
• Page Visit Counters – a report has been added for Page Visits, which also is captured in the Diagnostics report, which counts the number of visits to each screen used by the application. This is important for future application usability changes by providing important metrics on how users actually use different parts of the application.
• Enlarged Progress Bar – easier to view progress bar.
• Suppress Growl Messages – Growl messages are suppressed for automated operations that display a progress bar that would normally be shown for individual record updates.
• Import and Export subtabs – these functions have been separated from the Utilities subtab to better organize the functions and make it easier to locate the appropriate import or export functions.
• Bug Fixes
• Auto-Backup was performed on every quit. The above feature addresses this, and corrects the use of auto-backup every third quit by default.
